Second incident of stone-pelting at Kumbh Mela Train

Published:

Passengers traveling to the Maha Kumbh created chaos at two railway stations in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district after failing to board packed Prayagraj-bound trains. Authorities promise stricter security and special trains to manage the rush.

Chaos broke out at two railway stations in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district on Tuesday as Kumbh-bound people threw stones at trains after being unable to board owing to overcrowding, according to officials. The occurrences took place on Monday night at the Chhatarpur and Harpalpur train stations.

As per reports, the passengers grew agitated when those inside packed Prayagraj-bound trains refused to open the doors and windows to accommodate more people. Visuals that surfaced on social media show frustrated individuals shouting, throwing stones, and attempting to forcefully open the doors of a train at both stations.

RK Singh, a passenger from Chhatarpur, informed reporters that he was traveling to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, for the Maha Kumbh to take a sacred bath at the Sangam. However, he stated that he was unable to join the train because the doors and windows were closed. Singh claimed that even when the Government Railway Police (GRP) opened the doors to a train at Chhatarpur station, the excessive overcrowding prevented many passengers, including himself, from boarding.
