Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the 8th Pay Commission to revise the salaries of Central Government employees and allowances of pensioners. The decision to set up the 8th Pay Commission was taken at a meeting by the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Prime Minister has approved the 8th Central Pay Commission for all employees of Central Government.” The 8th pay commission will reportedly come into effect from January 1, 2026.
What is 8th pay commission?
In order to reflect the state of the economy, the 8th Pay Commission was created in 2025 with the goal of updating Central Government employees’ pay and pensions.
The 7th Pay Commission was established in 2016, and its term will end in December 2025. Now the Centre has announced the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission for Government staffers in 2026.

There are over 49 lakh central government employees and nearly 65 lakh pensioners as on date.
