Maharashtra Govt Approves Metro Line 8: ‘Gold Line’ to Link Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airports

Maharashtra government officially approved the building of Metro Line 8, also known as the ‘Gold Line,’ which will provide direct access between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and Navi Mumbai International Airport. This 35-kilometer metro corridor is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) Metro Master Plan and will greatly improve transport alternatives for millions of passengers.

Metro Line 8 is scheduled to complement NMIA’s operating timeline, opening in mid-2025, and will pass through important locations of Mumbai such as Kurla and Mankhurd, improving public transportation in these crowded zones.

Metro Line 8 project cost

The project is projected to cost over Rs 15,000 crore and will be created using a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach. However, it will also improve the accessibility of the two international airports, allowing for more convenient travel within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
