Israel and Hamas agree to ceasefire deal in Gaza, what next?

Published:

A ray of hope appears to be emerging as Israel and Hamas have come to an agreement to ceasefire in Gaza, for the war which was continuously going on for 15 months. This ceasefire is set to be implemented from Sunday which also includes the release of Israeli hostages in stages from Hamas and the release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees from Israel. Apart from this, it will also allow the displaced people in Gaza to return home.

High Tensions despite a Ceasefire Agreement

The ceasefire deal has been hailed by international organisations as an optimistic step. But after the ceasefire was reached, Israeli bombarding in Gaza have resulted in 45 deaths. As of now the UN and other aid groups have wholeheartedly welcomed the deal. However, there are still many uncertainties surrounding its implementation. The Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Nethanyahu has expressed tensions that Hamas might not totally respect the terms, signalling potential hurdles ahead.

US President Biden’s Reaction

This ceasefire is a result of a complex process in Doha, Qatar that took months to complete. US President Joe Biden is optimistic that the ceasefire agreement can bring a lasting peace to the fight between Israel and Hamas, even though the details of the agreement are awaiting approval from the Israeli cabinet. The current status is still volatile between both countries. Both sides are unsure about the future of the ceasefire agreement.
