Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto Arrives in Delhi For R-Day Parade

Published:

Indonesian president, Prabowo Subianto arrives in Delhi on Thursday night, ahead of the country’s 76th Republic Day celebration. This is his first visit to India as the head of the state. Subianto will grace the celebrations as one of the chief guests.

The Indonesian president was warmly received at the airport by the minister of state for external affairs, Pabitra Margherita. The external affairs ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, posted on the social media platform ‘X’ “A warm welcome to President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia as he arrives in New Delhi on his first state visit to India.”

India-Indonesia Ties

This visit is to further strengthen the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both sides are expected to expand their cooperation in several areas during the Indonesian chief visit.

Subianto will be the fourth Indonesian president to attend India’s Republic Day celebration. Sukarno, the first president of Indonesia, was invited as a chief guest at India’s first-ever Republic Day celebration in the year 1950. This Republic Day parade will see the participation of a 352-member marching and band contingent from Indonesia. The march and tableaus show will cover the Kartavya Path from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan. This will be the first time for an Indonesian contingent to participate in a national day parade abroad. And so, what is expected is an upswing in India-Indonesia ties.
