Types of Kumbh Mela

The largest Kumbh, the Maha Kumbh Mela, takes place in Prayagraj once every 144 years. It is considered the most auspicious event and has great significance. Every twelve years, Purna Kumbh Mela, also known as Kumbh, takes place at four sacred locations Prayagraj, Nashik, Ujjain, and Haridwar. The Ardh Kumbh Mela is held in Haridwar and Prayagraj in every six years.

Astronomical and Auspicious timings

The event is related to a Hindu mythology. Cosmic conflict between gods and demons: the drops of Amrit, leaked at four different spots. So, now these places witness the Kumbh mela. It is the planetary alignments that determine the Maha Kumbh’s timing. The Sun, Moon, and Jupiter’s positions determine the timing of this momentous occasion.
