Farmers’ Union To Meet On Jan 13 To Start A Joint Fight Against Centre

The meeting between the agitated farmers and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kissan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) is scheduled for January 13th, after delay. Earlier, the meeting was planned for Sunday, January 11. However, the date was pushed by a day in the wake of the deteriorating health of the farmers’ leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal. This meeting will start at 11 AM at Guru Teg Bahadur Gurudwara in Patran, Patiala.

The meeting will include protesting farmers at Khanauri and Shambhu border points. The focus of the discussion will be to decide the next action on a joint fight.

“The meeting will decide on modalities of how to run the protest unitedly and also to press the centre to initiate a dialogue with farmer unions. As of now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is refusing to budge despite the fact the level’s fast on death entered its 48th day on Sunday,” said P Krishna Prasad., the national finance secretary of all India Kisan Sabha, a subsidiary of SKM.

“We are working towards achieving border unity on our shared demand so that we can raise our voices together,” added Ravinder Singh Patiala, one of the six members of the SKM unity committee. The unity committee visited the Khanauri protest site on Friday, where they invited the SKM non-political and KMM to come together in a joint fight against the centre. That demand also included la egal guarantee to minimum support price or MSP.
