Delhi-Haryana Clash Over Contamination of Yamuna Water

Published:

Political tensions between the BJP-led government in Haryana and the AAP-led government in Delhi have exploded because of claims that Yamuna River water supplied to the people contains pollutants. Arvind Kejriwal former Delhi chief minister claimed that Haryana deliberately added ammonia to the Yamuna River in what he called “biological warfare” aimed at disrupting Delhi elections. Kejriwal used the term “biological warfare” while insisting that the contaminated water posed risks to public health throughout the capital.

Delhi CM Atishi blames Haryana for contamination

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Atishi reveals the water’s unsafe condition because its ammonia content exceeded normal levels by six times. She further mentioned the 15-20% decline in water supply to the city along with insufficient treatment abilities of the facilities because of excessive ammonia concentrations. The Chief Minister of Delhi asked for the Election Commission to step in by blaming Haryana for ruining city water reservoirs with the purpose of impacting election results.

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini denies the allegation

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini denied the blame mentioning Kejriwal’s failure to manage Delhi’s water distribution system in response to the allegations. Saini held the AAP government responsible for the Yamuna’s ongoing water contamination because he claimed the government moved 28 drains into the river. Saini dismissed claims of contaminated water by requesting Delhi inspectors to test water quality from the source in Sonipat Haryana.
