Delhi Court Granted Five Days Custody Parole To February 2020 Riot Accused To Campaign

Published:

A Delhi court on Wednesday granted five days of custody parole to the February 2020 riot accused and AIMIM Okhla candidate Shafa-ur-Rahman. This will allow the candidate to do campaigning for the upcoming Delhi elections. Additional sessions judge Sameer Bajpai was hearing Rehman’s interim bail plea for four weeks.

Special public prosecutor Amit Prasad argued in the matter that canvassing for election was an unreasonable ground for granting the relief and Rehman could be released only on custody payroll. However, the bail plea said that Rahman contesting on an AIMIM ticket is a required canvas for the coming elections in Delhi.

Court Decides For Parole

Finally, the court observed that the Supreme Court on January 28 granted six-day custody parole to a former AAP counsellor and co-accused Tahir Hussain from Mustafabad. And so, Rehman be granted a custody parole bail.

Custody parole is given to a prisoner when they are escorted by armed police personnel to various places of visit.
