Bangladesh’s interim government claims to continue its efforts to bring deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back from India. For this, the government is ready to take international interventions, if required.
A daily newspaper reported that law advisor, Asif Nazrul said at the Secretariat that if New Delhi refuses to return ex-PM Hasina, it would be a violation of the extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India. Last year, Dhaka sent a diplomatic note to New Delhi seeking the extradition of Sheikh Hasina.
“We have written a letter for extradition. If India does not extradite Sheikh Hasina, it will be a clear violation of the extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India. We are doing everything we can. The government will continue all efforts to bring Sheikh Hasina back. If necessary, international support will sort” said Nazrul.
Hasina Flee To India
77-year-old Sheikh Hasina has been living in India since August 5 last year, after leaving her native country because of a massive student-led protest. The protest toppled her 16-year-old Awami League regime in Bangladesh. Bangladesh International Crime Tribunal, ICT, has issued an arrest warrant for Haseena and other former cabinet ministers, advisors and military officials for ‘crime against humanity and genocide’.
India has been openly expressing its concerns over the attack on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
