Actor Anup Soni, famous for his part in the long-running television series Crime Patrol, has issued a public statement denying involvement in a recent Congress campaign ad targeting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The uproar began when a clip from Soni’s popular show was utilized in an advertisement published on the Congress party’s official X (previously Twitter) account.
‘I Have Nothing to Do With This’ said Anup
The ad begins with a voiceover that reads, “Dilli ki janta, savdhaan. 10 saal se yeh admi Dilli ki janta ko thag raha hain,” translating to a strong condemnation of Kejriwal’s tenure as Delhi CM, accusing him of deceiving the public and enjoying a lavish lifestyle while the city suffers. The ad calls on voters to not open their doors to him in the upcoming elections.
When Anup Soni saw that his show’s clip had been exploited in this political context, he walked to Twitter to make clear that he was unaware of or involved in the ad campaign. He stated clearly that he does not support any political party and has “nothing to do with this.”
Soni’s prompt response underscores a rising tendency of celebrities being unwittingly linked to political campaigns, whether through the use of their photos or content from their enterprises. This instance emphasizes the need of gaining authorization before exploiting such material for political objectives
