UP: 7 dead, 50 injured after stage collapse at religious event

At a Jain Nirvana festival in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, a stage collapsed on Tuesday, killing 7 people and leaving at least 50 others injured including women and children. According to the police ‘Laddoo Mahotsav’ was held today by the Jain community in Baraut, and hundreds of people came to a temple to offer laddoo. The devotees were gathered on a bamboo platform. The crowd’s weight caused this platform to collapse.

Authorities acted quickly to rescue individuals trapped under the stage during Tuesday morning’s rescue efforts.

UP CM Yogi wishes quick recovery for those injured

The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, condemned the tragedy and instructed the local district police to give those injured emergency aid. Additionally, he wished for the quick recovery of everyone hurt in the accident.

However, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav took to X and criticised Yogi Adityanath and said, “Due to government administrative negligence and carelessness, there was no monitoring of crowd control in the Nirvana religious festival organized in Baghpat, UP, an accident happened and hundreds of devotees are reported to be injured and there is unconfirmed information about some casualties, we pray to God that everyone is safe”.
