Canadian national Tahawwur Rana from Pakistan lost his last attempt to stop his extradition to India for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. On January 21 the US Supreme Court refused Rana’s petition thus making it possible for authorities to transfer him to India.
Rana’s involvement in terrorist attacks
The extradition of Rana has become an extensive international matter. Authorities arrested him in 2009 and authorities have kept him in US detention until now. Canadian national Tahawwur Rana faces charges in America after aiding Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley with attacks that resulted in the deaths of 166 people including six Americans. Headley continues serving his 35-year US prison term after he provided evidence against Rana during the case inquiry.
Rana’s extradition makes it possible for India to conduct criminal proceedings against him for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks that continue as the most deadly terrorist attack on India.
