11 feared dead after commuters jump off train in Jalgaon, run over by another train

In the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, the Karnataka Express hit at least 11 people, killing them, according to railway officials. On Wednesday at 4:19 p.m., a terrible train accident happened close to the Pardhade railway station.

“Some passengers of the Pushpak Express stepped down, and were hit by the oncoming Karnataka Express,” said Central Railway’s chief spokesperson Swapnil Nila.

How the accident happened

The incident occurred when passengers onboard the Pushpak Express, which was heading from Lucknow to Mumbai jumped from the train after being frightened by what they believed to be a fire. Some passengers, feeling threatened, grabbed the emergency chain and jumped from the moving train in the confusion. Soon after, the Karnataka Express, which was approaching from the other direction, hit them, killing at least 11.
