Paris Olympics, Day 12: Although India’s dreams of a Wrestling medal was shattered after Vinesh Phogat was disqualified, Mirabai Chanu was in medal contention for a long while but finished fourth.
It wasn’t the best of days to begin with for India in Paris Olympics 2024. While it all started with Suraj Panwar and Priyank Goswami failing to finish the Marathon Race Walk Relay as the day progressed, the biggest news was Vinesh Phogat being disqualified from the Olympics, leaving even the silver medal she had assured herself by winning the semifinal null and void.
The Indian women’s table tennis team too lost to Germany 1-3 in the Women’s Team Quarterfinal and could not secure a place for themselves in the final four which would have meant a step closer to a medal. That left only weightlifter Mirabai Chanu in medal contention but while she looked set to win a medal at one stage, she eventually finished 1 kg short of podium finish to settle for the fourth position.
